Just finished our 1st parent session. Not surprising, lots of questions about what fall will look like and changes that have been made in light of COVID. I was somewhat expecting to feel a bit drained and down because there is still a lot of uncertainty of what is to come.
Yet, I ended feeling energized and optimistic. Folks get the uncertainty, but they are still excited about coming to the U. I so appreciated the folks with their cameras on and I was pleasantly surprised to see many students joining their parents.
The smiles and non-verbals added a positive energy to the conversation. It was also nice to get the typical questions like the weather, should my student have a car, how big of fridge can they have in the halls, etc. This gave me a sense of normalcy in this non-normal time.
This also provided insight on what information we are doing a good job in relaying and what questions we need to do a better job of answering. It reminded me that we can& #39;t just focus on the COVID things, but we have to pay attention to the typical things as well.
Overall, this was a good way for me to start my weekend. Hope you are able to take some time this weekend to recharge and enjoy the things that bring a smile to your face. #EMchat
