Looks like we& #39;re going to avoid significant flooding along Lake Ontario& #39;s southern shoreline this year. @IJCsharedwaters reports the water level will peak well below the highs we saw in 2017 and 2019. 1/4
The Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board (part of the IJC) breached #Plan2014& #39;s limits to increase outflows - a move made possible by moderate weather and lower water levels downstream (thanks Ottawa River!). 2/4
What& #39;s interesting is the lakes that feed into Ontario have had notably high water levels and Ontario& #39;s sat well above normal throughout the winter. In other words, the threat was there, but Mother Nature and the IJC& #39;s flexibility improved conditions dramatically. 3/4
My guess is while some from our region will continue to push for the scrapping of #Plan2014, the IJC and various other governmental bodies will encourage investment in shoreline protection and action plans to combat future high and LOW water levels. 4/4
