I don& #39;t know who needs to hear this but here& #39;s Scarlett Strallen and Katherine Kingsley singing "I Don& #39;t Know His Name" in the SUBLIME Menier revival of She Loves Me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8Vmpp1cwMQ">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
The production, unlike the 1994 London revival, allowed the actors to use their natural voices and Arpad was an absolute Welsh charmer. https://twitter.com/amgreenberg/status/1253390975189299202?s=20">https://twitter.com/amgreenbe...
Director Matthew White did something bold and daring that Scott Ellis cannot: he trusted the material. The Menier revival brought out so much depth in the characters. Amalia and Georg didn& #39;t bicker, they fought. It came from a real place and made the finale all the more effective
It was a jewel box of a musical. The elements: the set design, costume design, the new chamber orchestration were more cognizant of the period—and the financial realities of the setting—than the slicker, more sitcom-ish Roundabout revival that same year.
The reviews were stellar, the word of mouth was exquisite, but it wasn& #39;t enough to bring She Loves Me back into the West End, even for a limited season and that was a shame. I would have flown back just to see it again.
As a matter of fact, the last piece I& #39;ve written about theatre to date was an encomium to the Menier She Loves Me: https://www.theatreaficionado.com/2016/12/loves-menier-chocolate-factory.html">https://www.theatreaficionado.com/2016/12/l...
PS: Though the revival didn& #39;t receive a cast album, that audio at the top of this thread is indeed from a complete soundboard of the Menier She Loves Me. Knowing that it at least exists... well, that makes the heart feels a bit better.
