why cross your mind by niall horan is without a doubt one of the best songs written of all time and should be more appreciated (a thread):
first of all, the relatableness of it all. everybody has that 1 person that messes u up so badly that you& #39;d let them hurt u a MILLION times if it just meant that you could see them again. niall conveys that emotion PERFECTLY through the lyrics. truly POWERFUL
the feeling of wanting someone so badly that u& #39;d let them hurt u is demonstrated not only in the lyrics but in the melody/production too. lets appreciate the instrumental track. even without hearing the lyrics u can STILL feel that hurt yet desiring emotion that the song portrays
im no musical prodigy or anything but the way that the background music/chords go back & forth between happy/sad sounding within the same line along with that bass instrument (?) playing those decreasing notes every now & then....just WOW! it makes you feel the pain in ur CHEST
and the VERSES. how niall keeps singing lower within each set of 2 lines. like he& #39;s just falling deeper into the TRAP! OF! THIS! PERSON! the intelligence. the power of his mind.
the PRE-chorus. "if you leave me like a message in a bottle and you don& #39;t come back tomorrow...at least you came tonight" THE WAY THAT HE IS ABLE TO CONVEY THE DESIRING EMOTION THAT BASICALLY JUST SAYS "fuck it. i dont even care if u hurt me" with such grace...WHO ELSE COULD EVER
"but when u get hot and bothered...i can& #39;t give up the fight" need i say more??? NEED I SAY MORE ABOUT THESE LYRICS??? he makes it so easy to understand by putting the lyrics in such a get-to-the-point way but he does it in a way that really makes u FEEL THE POWER OF THE EMOTION
AND! the way that this song was originally wtitten as a ballad. YET! when he converted it to a song u can dance the HELL out of, he still was able to keep the powerful emotions with it. like u can just dance ur heart out to this song while also crying??? idk. u know what i mean.
and. let& #39;s talk about the BRIDGE. THE WHOLE BRIDGE. are we kidding?! are we kidding!!! i want to scream those lyrics at the top of the highest building in the world. no matter how hurt he is by this person....he& #39;s just never GONNA! GIVE! UP! damn that HURTS
and. may i just say. the WOO-OO-OO in every chorus. THANK YOU. that deserves a grammy alone
THIS is the type of song you can just feel every emotion to. if u want to happily sing it out bc u have accepted u will always forgive this person, fine. if u wanna scream out angrily bc someone keeps hurting u, FINE. if u want to cry ur eyes out while having a dance party, FINE!
THIS SONG IS EVERYTHING!!! from the lyrics, the production, the vocals, the emotion, the BUILD UP to the bridge/last chorus, EVERYTHING. these are my points. this is why cross your mind by niall horan is one of the best songs of all time. thank you.
