i am now in 4 book clubs which is ALMOST enough to fill the gaping void of having to leave a graduate program hahah wow am i too old to go back to school

specifically wondering:
1) what to do about recommendations if i haven& #39;t interacted w/ past profs in a long while
2) how to find a program that won& #39;t be as abusive as my last one
3) best ways to navigate a change of field (from music to american studies, for instance)

also wondering whether committees will see my DOB & immediately write me off
