I successfully defended my dissertation over Zoom today & got to share the moment w/ friends & family from every part of my life.

It wasn’t what I had imagined, it was so much better anything that I could have ever imagined.

When I started my PhD six years ago, I always imagined that I would have an in person defense. It became clear weeks ago though, that this wouldn’t be possible.

But bc it was online, I got to share it with my entire village, and that made today one of the best days of my life.

So grateful to my committee members, my family, my friends, my group chats, my parents, my wife, my kids & all the incarcerated & formerly incarcerated people who shared their stories with me.

And thanks to everyone on here who has encouraged me along the way. What a ride.
