Okay everyone, get ready. I’m taking everyone on a tour of all the pottery I made throughout the years that is currently being exhibited in my parents’ house. There’s more elsewhere, I was a prolific and enthusiastic if unskilled potter.
We will begin with my early period. I’m pretty sure these were from early grade school, I don’t remember making either one. The mug has been broken and glued back together, the little pot is almost solid and would probably survive if thrown down the stairs.
This masterpiece was from middle school. Everyone in my art class was making little heads like this. I can’t remember if it was an assignment, or just our meme.
Looks like I used the same glaze for these two. I was going for some kind of gourd aesthetic on the round pot. I think I was picturing carrying it along on a journey like a canteen.
I liked making little pinch pot dishes for keys or coins. I’m pretty fond of the color of the star, and love the facial expression in the other one. Good to know my sense of humor hasn’t changed much in 15 years.
I made a ton of these little people once I figured out how easy it was. I have some in my own apartment. I’m pretty sure I painted rather than glazed the dragonfly person, they’re very metallic.
I loved making shit with this wizard motif. There was a crazy matching goblet somewhere, but I bet it broke. The other one is a coil pot that I was particularly proud of.
I sculpted this little adventuring girl. She has a sword and a backpack and everything! Her paint is all faded from sitting in the sunlight.
These pots are so heavy and thick on the bottom, I was terrible on the pottery wheel. One has the kanji for ‘joy’. I do like the paint job on the blue one, nice job high school me.
We finish with my most and least favorite pots. I hope you can guess which is which! I wanted to smash that hideous green monstrosity, but my mom wouldn’t let me, and now has it squirreled away in her bedroom. I will get it eventually, and toss it into the ocean.
This thread doesn’t even touch on the stuff I have in my apartment, things my aunt has in her house, stuff I gave to friends, etc. etc. I hope you have enjoyed this dive into my little shown artistic side.
