Ok, with lab& #39;s shuttered, it& #39;s time to learn to write. I mean really learn to grow as a writer. I& #39;m starting a new thread for all my @___SDB___ friends: #DevBiolWriteClub
Listen up students and postdocs. If you succeed in this business you& #39;ll eventually be a full-time writer. I& #39;ll be using #DevBiolWriteClub to talk about writing, and i invite anyone else to join the conversation.
The first rule of Write Club is to show up and do the work, everyday. Pressman& #39;s outstanding book "The War of Art" tells us that "...It& #39;s not the writing part that& #39;s hard. What& #39;s hard is sitting down to write."
I& #39;m not usually an advocate of self-help books, but if you are serious about being a better writer, The War of Art by is quick and important read: https://www.amazon.com/War-Art-Winning-Creative-Battle/dp/1501260626">https://www.amazon.com/War-Art-W...
So that& #39;s the first rule. If you& #39;ve got a paper to write, then sit down and write. Everyday. Don& #39;t make it haphazard; don& #39;t do it when it& #39;s convenient. Be intentional. Plan it. Do it. Sit down each day and get to work. #DevBiolWriteClub
Oh, one more REALLY important thing: Twitter is NOT writing. So, time for me to follow rule number one. I& #39;m out. See y& #39;all tomorrow.
Today, let’s manage expectations for #DevBiolWriteClub: For now, I will focus on how to be a better writer. This is different from how to write better. First assignment: read this tweet again. Think about it. Was it well written? Did you enjoy reading it?
