JACAP (Performance Rights Org.) is crappy at communicating & actually doing their Job .. While yes they can collect for online broadcasts, currently its really only for online radios that operate 24/7 & have a certain amount of average simultaneous listeners for the month.
So by Right most of us Djs & online parties are operating as small non-commercial radio stations/web-casters and majority of the broadcasts Don& #39;t last more than 4-5 hours at a time so it can be argued that we& #39;re below way the threshold for them to even link us about funds.
Once we operate as an actual radio station then JACAP/ASCAP/BMI etc and Sound Exchange (Digital Performance Rights Organisation-Responsible for Digital Performance royalties) get paid but at JACAP does horrible job at explaining & providing info on rates & distribution of $$
I believe over the years the permit fees charged for outdoor events are all over the place esp because promoters have to go several different organisation to obtain the permits for one event & at the end of the day it& #39;s really the police show up & they only care about KSAC permit
I know Most promoters who pay JACAP fees never see a rep from JACAP come to an event to do an audit of the songs played .. So there isn& #39;t an actual official database of all the music played .. So the fact that most people dont see them actually doing their job is the BIG PROBLEM
So JACAP needs to fix their approach & fwd with a better solutions esp in this time because they& #39;re several ways both artistes and promoters/DJs can survive .. In Fact if we group up & get permission from the artistes/labels to play their music on our online stations We clear!!!
One good way to do it is to provide a playlists of song played with buy links and links to streaming platforms for each song, mek it easy for artistes songs to be played & bought. Anno ntn fi legally go round them & artiste and Dj/promoters get money... So JACAP needs to chill
