You know when a man decides to roleplay a women in a game, I think he is automatically open to being criticized. You cant just play any role that is the opposite of what or who you are without understanding that criticism will come your way.
If you play an opposing role like this to try and understand what it& #39;s like to be a different gender/race/sexuality, then you need to understand criticism is part of the process. This is where we start to learn and grow, granted not all criticism is helpful or progressive.
To me criticism depends on who it comes from and the reasoning it is being said. In the workshops I& #39;ve been apart of, criticism came from a small group of people, all of who where there to become better at writing. It also came in a pairing process.
By that I mean you would say what was good and interesting with the subject and pair it with a fault of the subject, something that could use improvement. I think people forget what critisism actually is. They think it as a scape goat/loop hole/disguise to a complaint.
Criticism: the analysis and judgement of the merits and faults of a literary or artistic work. Within the art community, and from a reasonable source, criticism is good and needed. It& #39;s how we better ourselves and learn.
I& #39;ve seen the criticism of how Sam portrays Nott/Veth. I agree with alot of it. As women I feel his portrayal hurts women. And I dont feel like he& #39;s learning anything from the experience based off of nott/veths actions and attitudes.
I wont get into why I think this, that not the point of this thread. This is their game and their characters. Normally I hate it when people tell them what to do but critisism isnt like that. Critisism isnt a command, it& #39;s a suggestion to reconsider.
There needs to be a balance between recieving criticism and letting people play their game how they want to. But there needs to be an understanding that there is an influence and effect from people who play their games online
What I& #39;m saying is people need to relearn the meaning of criticism and relearn how to critical think in order to see what is genuine and not. And I say this more so to viewers not players.
