the idea that we all have to be perfect people from the start, and the insistence that everyone, even fictional characters, even a 6 year old fictional little brown girl who just went through trauma, be perfect or not exist, is the most toxic thing in youth culture.
it& #39;s especially toxic for black and brown people, who are *expected* to be right and when we& #39;re not we& #39;re hurt more than anyone else.
no room for contrition, no room for improvement, you are unchanging and immobile and will always be what you currently are. This isn& #39;t how life works.
