I just got a heart-stoppingly sad series of texts from my youngest brother about invasive surveillance technology being sprung on students at his university. They are all learners in crisis, and hurting. I know people I follow on here work on this, and I recently saw...
...someone offer to talk to departments that are panicking about switching to online and leaping to enforce surveillance on students, to try to help convince them it& #39;s harmful. But I can& #39;t remember who!! Please, connect me to anyone who might be able to help?
He is trying to advocate for his friends, & they are all struggling to perform online, caring for family, experiencing major upheaval. He& #39;s struggling with unreliable internet & this is all making it worse. I would love to help him find the language that might be listened to.
I reminded him to take care of himself first, and he said "I know, I just know there are students in this class who are going through an incredibly difficult time, and I need to stand up for them." https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Loudly crying face" aria-label="Emoji: Loudly crying face">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="♥️" title="Heart suit" aria-label="Emoji: Heart suit">
A day later, the responses to this have been SO kind and meant SO much to us!! From my bro, "Universities sometimes feel like they don& #39;t listen unless you fight against them... tell [everyone working on student data privacy] I said thanks for what they do"
