okay so obviously the whole situation around taiwan and the who is a whole mess and complex and i truly don& #39;t have the emotional capacity to elaborate/fully engage but joanne ou& #39;s statement that racism isn& #39;t a problem in taiwan.....ma& #39;am........yes it is lmao it very much is. (1)
black and indigenous folks are treated noticeably worse than han and white folks, and even though there are v v few black folks in taiwan, anti-blackness is very much embedded in society. people casually spout stereotypes against indigenous communities all the time (2)
i distinctly remember hearing that shit from teachers and on the national evening news. and don& #39;t even get me started with prejudice against SE asians who are consistently at a disadvantage when they migrate to taiwan. so ma& #39;am what the ever-loving fuck are you talking about (3)
yes, things are rough, it& #39;s hard to be taiwanese. but han taiwanese especially need to stop acting like we& #39;re victims of everything and pretend we never did anything fucked up. indigenous taiwanese are less than 3% of our population. how the fuck did you think that happened. (4)
this country was built on colonisation and racism. han taiwanese are both coloniser and colonised. i literally learned this from middle school taiwanese history, so y& #39;all have no excuse. 漢人的確是會被別人種族歧視, 但別忘了我們在台灣所擁有的社會特權以及其起源.
and before anyone tries to GOTCHA me: I grew up mostly in Taiwan and moved around a lot internationally so yes I know that concepts of race/ethnicity are different everywhere etc. Still doesn’t change the fact that we really fuck over Black + indigenous folks
