(1/20) On the last week of March, I heard from my siblings that our close friend& #39;s mother has been taken to the hospital because she was showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. She tested positive a day later. [THREAD]
(2/20) I just want to clarify that I am currently stuck in California, unable to do much of anything except check on him, his family and my family who is all in New Jersey via call and text message
(3/20) I had checked up on the friend, let& #39;s call him "Cherry", and told him that if he ever needed anything, that I was here to help. He notified me that it wasn& #39;t just his mother who was affected, but his father too.
(4/20) I was sending him some twitter threads and articles of people& #39;s day-by-day diary experience with the virus. He was really afraid of the days where people were starting to not be able to breathe properly.
(5/20) The mother had contracted the virus from her co-worker at J&J Snack Foods.
(6/20) Cherry has been sleeping late every night taking care of them and woke up extremely early just to take their temperatures. The mom and dad displayed severely low energies and had no appetite. He would have to stare them down as they ate and drank their foods.
(7/20) A few friends and family members dropped off supplies and food. The mother& #39;s fever came back and was severely exhausted. She got her color and appetite back. The father was doing better as well.
(8/20) A day later, his father has gotten worse and was having a really hard time breathing. Cherry took him to the hospital and waited, hoping he was going to be admitted. The mother& #39;s temperature was down to normal but was still exhausted.
(9/20) X-ray came out bad so they were going to do more testing on the father - He was admitted the same day.
(10/20) The next day, Cherry texted me that he thinks he contracted the virus. He was in unbelievable pain, body felt heavy, had a headache, couldn& #39;t move his eyeball, and wanted to throw up. He didn& #39;t have much appetite as well. I threatened him to drink.
(11/20) His father was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. Cherry texted me on Monday early morning that his father is now on a breathing machine - with a 50/50 survival rate. That is what his doctors told him. 50/50. like a fucking coin toss.
(12/20) Cherry& #39;s condition worsened and ended up at the ER. He couldn& #39;t breathe so an inhaler was given to stabilize him.
(13/20) It is now Wednesday, the mother has been at home - she got more of her energy back with a little bit of a headache. Cherry passed out trying while brushing his teeth, but the fever he had the night before was down now. He said there was no news of his dad still.
(14/20) There are more confirmed cases of COVID-19 popping up at J&J Snack Foods. The company his mother works at, and also the same company my father works at (he works at a different location).
(15/20) A woman& #39;s husband is now at Cooper Hospital, Jefferson has also accumulated more ICU patients but J&J Snack Foods remain open without any proper procedures for its employees.
(16/20) J&J Snack Foods have been making people work without time off. They told their employees that they will have a "permanent vacation", if they ever asked for a day& #39;s leave. It& #39;s an immediate layoff.
(17/20) In only three paragraphs of their official statement of COVID-19, 3/4 of their statement is all about "how their annual revenue was going to be impacted". They never stated how they were going to address and provide for their employees& #39; health and well-being.
(18/20) Now Cherry& #39;s father is in a coma, more cases have been popping up in the company, but they have yet to provide any cautionary measures for their employees. My father works at a different location and he refuses to NOT come into work bc we& #39;re poor and we need the money
(19/20) I am stuck. In California. And I have no way of guaranteeing my family& #39;s health on top of our friends and their family& #39;s health. I don& #39;t know what else to do except leave comments on their IG posts (which I& #39;ve gotten block from and they& #39;ve deactivated their comments).
(20/20) I am at the point where I& #39;m starting to write on places that they can& #39;t touch like Indeed, Google Reviews, Yelp (if they have one), etc.
I am writing this thread because Cherry doesn’t have his own platform and twitter. His entire family is suffering but he wants to spread the awareness that J&J Snack Foods have been doing improper protocols that don’t ensure the well being of the workers.
He “doesn’t want anyone to go through what his family is going through at the moment”
