Gentan but childhood friends au
One day Tanjirou finds Genya wandering around the town where he sells charcoal, and offers to take the clearly lost boy to his home. Genya is nervous and refuses, but he stays in town long enough to see Tanjirou selling again the next day
Tanjirou catches Genya about to steal food and loudly scolds him, but brings him back home after that. His mother helps get him fed and clothes washed, since Genya had been wandering for who knows how long after Sanemi left him in the streets
Genya is still pretty scared, and angry at the world, but he& #39;s able to grow up along Tanjirou as friends. He doesnt always stay under the same roof for fear of intruding, no matter how much his kind hearted friend insists its okay
The night that the Kamado household was attacked, Genya had been staying in his own hut that Tanjirou had helped him build a few seasons ago. When he came back the next day to see the blood, and the graves, and his dear friend missing, he thought that they had all been killed.
Thats why Genya is so angry when he sees Tanjirou at final selection. He thought that he had been left behind on purpose, and the fact that Tanjirou didnt bother to tell him he had left hurt. Just like Sanemi just up and left one day.
When he sees Nezuko as a demon in the swordsmith village is when Genya understands what really happened. And he wants to take back the way he acted, but he can& #39;t. Tanjirou forgives him anyway, and they start reforging their friendship after so long apart
And then they realize that they started to get crushed on each other. Tanjirou confesses first, he was never good at hiding his feelings. And they kiss.
