sitting here at two thirty ay em, trauma dumping on a professor in gmail, bc somehow this is the only way they& #39;ll even consider maybe making a deadline slightly flexible?
haha just remembering how the last time i did this i was denied accommodations ha ha ha ha ha
sat there trembling for hours in anxiety bc i had just, again, TRAUMA DUMPED to a PROFESSOR to gain BASIC EMPATHY and now i& #39;m about to do it all over again lol i hate it here!
profs, do not email to "express your concern" if 1. u don& #39;t mean it and ur only goal is to scare your student into apologizing for missing class/deadlines etc, or 2. u aren& #39;t prepared to hear the raw truth of what ur students are going thru + make immediate adjustments for them
if u do send this email maybe include a line that says something like, oh, idk, "no need to give specifics if ur not comfortable, just say ur having a bad time and i will do everything to help u"
and then maybe also offer potential solutions/adjustments yourself that u would be ok letting ur student do, bc it is really really hard to articulate what we need right now beyond all-out canceling classes lol
and also, when u ask us to suggest what would work best for us, we don& #39;t know what you& #39;re ok with (and many profs aren& #39;t prepared to hear the answer for what we actually need), so we& #39;re forced to wildly guess which accommodations you may or may not reject and it sucks
whatever i know not v many profs follow me on here bc most of academic twitter hates undergrads for some reason, as the harassment i get every time @IsabelOtt retweets me has proven, but if ur a prof and u do see this, pls consider. and if u are trying already, ty, i love u
just thinking how wild it is that i addressed this thread mostly to academics and yet i Greatly Fear them ever finding it skldjfsldjfla
