Who fancies yet another million-Scoville take on What& #39;s Happening And Why? A THREAD IN SEVERAL PARTS…
The UK Government is highly likely to announce a longer and/or tougher lockdown.
The UK Government is highly likely to announce a longer and/or tougher lockdown.
This is a necessary measure to take during a pandemic (and always has been). But people don& #39;t like being told what to do, so they& #39;ll want someone to blame.
The Government don& #39;t want to take the blame, so they& #39;ve been & #39;nudging& #39; people to blame each other. You need only look at your social media feed to see how effective this has been. Everyone is complaining about the actions of other people (they can always justify their own).
A & #39;soft& #39; lockdown mentally prepares the populace for a & #39;hard& #39; lockdown. Government knows this.
The Government *aren& #39;t* to blame for what is necessary, but *if* people start to blame them, you& #39;re looking down the barrel of civil unrest, and no one wants that.
& #39;But other countries…& #39;. Stop right there. The UK polices by consent, and doesn& #39;t have the resources to do otherwise. Other, more authoritarian countries are different.
The People aren& #39;t blameless, of course. People are stupid. Individuals can be wise, but *people* are stupid. You, me, everyone, we& #39;re people. Put us together in a group, we& #39;re stupid.
