Been thinking about schools like @LexingtonHSMa moving to pass/fail grading. And that it& #39;s a missed opportunity. Instead why not move to mastery or competency-based grading? Work to understand what competencies students have mastered. For those that haven& #39;t been worked on yet /1
That& #39;s just fine. Say so. For those not mastered yet, also fine. Just say "still working." Will give parents, students and educators way more feedback on what students still must do- as well as prompt conversations on priorities/ tradeoffs. What& #39;s most important to learn? /2
This will also help when students return to school and schools need to figure out how to best serve them given a wide spread of learning. Schools can then avoid conversations about holding back students en masse that would have terrible ripple effect. And instead focus on /3
Personalizing learning to meet each student where he/she is. Plenty of tools to facilitate this exist. I& #39;d personally look to @SummitSpark on personalized plans, deeper learning projects, & mastery based learning. @MasteryTrack @MastTranscript. /4
How would teachers assess? Beyond adaptive digital assessments that exist like @nwea @iReady @RenLearnUS @khanacademy, educators can take cues from orgs like @VLACS and assess projects, portfolios and leverage oral assessments as checks. But let& #39;s innovate. Now& #39;s the time to /5
