If you have survived on welfare for most of your life or bounced between low waged work and welfare, now is the time to talk. If we don& #39;t the newly unemployed will be centred in narratives that don& #39;t belong to them. Speak up, Tweet about what welfare has been like for us.
How caseworkers r racist as shit at winz & disproportionately deny Māori (especially sole Māori Mums) their basic entitlements such as food grants. Which violates their human rights & the social security act. How welfare is so humiliating people would rather go hungry than apply.
How caseworkers at WINZ& #39;s on the back of MSD r incentivised to force as many of us into work that is unsafe & dangerous, and if we don& #39;t take it we get fucking sanctioned. We have our benefits halved or worse suspended completely. I& #39;ve no words to describe how that feels.
The newly unemployed who& #39;ve never had to access WINZ, r gonna b horrified. Jobseekers sits at $219 a week, then u get the accomodation supplement which is pennies. Maybe you will get TAS (temp additional support) if ya lucky. You will be plunged below the poverty line over night.
