I need to speak out about Travis Maldonado after watching his final moments on #TigerKing https://abs.twimg.com/hashflags... draggable="false" alt=""> . I didn& #39;t know him well, but we went to hs together. I was a teacher& #39;s assistant for his Algebra 1 class too.
Despite the fact that Travis was obviously a troubled kid who had a problem with authority, he was always a nice and funny guy to his classmates. Everyone knew him to be that 6 foot guy with massive hands who liked to act a fool.
What& #39;s heavy is the fact that Travis was only 19 when he met Joe Exotic. By that time, he was already a meth addict. So how the hell did we let a kid from SoCal get addicted to meth 1-2 years out of hs?
Travis needed help and he didn& #39;t get it. He always smelled like pot, skipped class and was often sent to the principal& #39;s office for talking back to his teachers. It was obvious that he had issues at home, but I& #39;m sure they were never addressed.
The majority of our peers came from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Some kids moved 4-5 times during hs. One girl lured an older man on a date to rob him just for rent money. Everyone was going through something, but who was listening?
If ever you get a free moment... ask someone how their day& #39;s going. How are they feeling? Listening to someone& #39;s story, no matter how crazy it is, could mean everything to them.
