The things I’m seeing some of you say about Summer Walker just proves to me so many of you talk about mental illness and don’t even understand how it works, and don’t care to either.

(A thread)
One of the most popular ones I’ve seen is “well she wanted this job what she expect” .... lol the most irking of all statements
Some of you don’t realise how important creating art is for some people. It’s literally what they need to do to survive. They need to sing, to write, to express. Stifling their talent quite literally may feel like they are suffocating themselves in real life...
So they create. And if they get noticed for it, and get to a point where they can actually be paid to do what they love; that’s great.

But being paid to do what you love, and being famous/ a celebrity are kind of two different things (maybe with a fine line in some industries)
Fame is a literal monster as we’ve seen over and over again.
And the narrative that because someone wants to sing, dance, act (or any other creative art that puts you very much in the public eye) assumes that they are signing up for backlash and constant scrutiny and people feeling entitled to your time and space is just not fair
Some people literally just want to (NEED to) create.
Maybe there’s more to the story I’m missing. But understanding mental illness and understanding fame, I see nothing wrong with her canceling her shows because she feels as though she can no longer manage
Maybe she didn’t even want to go on tour, maybe her manager or whoever else on her team told her she had to cuz her music was getting some traction and all those things we see teams pressuring artists into doing all the time
But anyway, mental illness is real, whether you understand it or not.

Social anxiety is more than just “I can’t leave my house”.

And being good at something doesn’t mean you want fame. I wouldn’t ever wish to be famous https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🥴" title="Woozy face" aria-label="Emoji: Woozy face">
