Inspired by @DrSarahMarsh here is Edmund Blackadder as the much put upon ICU consultant in covid times.
Morning handover when Costa is closed, he’s run out of capsules for his office machine and someone offers a cup of decaf
Thirty-five minutes into the fifteen minute handover when someone asks if the patient had a temperature nine days ago
The 85th minute of handover is interrupted by someone saying there “might be a aneurysm” in a remote site
Sending the registrar out to respond to the lurker outside the seminar room asking “do you have any beds?”
Starting the ward round and finding the really good ultrasound machine and some juicy findings are likely
How he thinks he looks demonstrating thoracic POCUS to the whole ward round
How Sister responds to him taking two hours to get to the third patient
Taking a phone call from the fabulously clever Rheumatologist about Tocilizumab
Responding to the enthusiastic core trainee who replies to an offhand comment with “Yes boss! I’m thrilled to hear that and I love my job too!”
Asked how he’s going to manage the patient on APRV which he actually knows nothing about.
Promising to sort everything out after going for a coffee
Inner self after he leaves the unit, doffs, and is handed a double espresso with three extra shots and a muffin
Asked what his plans are after Covid
Finally makes it to evening handover and is asked how his day was
Trying to sleep knowing he’s on call tomorrow.
Fin.
