1/ Moving from SF to Austin in 3 days.
Wife and I have been planning the move since 2019, before Covid and before it became the cool thing to do. But Covid hit and it delayed our plans.
You’ll never guess why (hint: has nothing to do w/ state income taxes).

2/ Family. Wife’s family lives in the Austin area. We’re starting baby planning and want to be closer to her family. Apparently having kids is the thing to do, especially as a 30-something year old at this stage of life. 
3/ SF real estate market. Continues to be absurd. Our 2 bd 1 ba, 750 sqft, no backyard, condo that we’re renting in the Presidio Heights for >$4k/mo would be $1.2M (vs similar comps). Prices will continue to 
due to post-Covid rebound + post-IPO millionaires. No thank you!

4/ Austin real estate market. We’re seeing 4+ bd, 3+ ba, 3000+ sqft, 1/2 acre lot, swimming pool, the works, 15 min from downtown Austin, for <$1M. Didn’t used to care about home ownership but now I do. Also our dog Sneakers

5/ Quality of life — crime. If you’re following the recall @chesaboudin campaign, you’ll know what I’m referring to. Wife and I no longer feel safe living in SF. Been here since 2006 and seen it slowly deteriorate. Chesa Boudin and others made it worse. Not raising a family here.
6/ Quality of life — wildfires and air quality. Having spoken w/experts & investors in wildfire prevention, vs 2020 SF/Bay will experience more frequency & intensity of wildfires over the next 5-10 years. Which affects air quality, local economy, and everyday quality of life.
7/ Governance. I won’t go into too much detail, but I do not agree with how the city and state have been handling the pandemic and other issues. I no longer trust the leadership here.

8/ Austin’s culture. What can you say that hasn’t already been said about Austin. Love the outdoor

9/ Austin’s tech scene.
To me, SF’s tech scene is like Facebook. It’s mature and passed its peak years ago.
Austin’s tech scene is like the Series A company that found product-market fit. It’s on the up and up

And if you know me, I love finding opportunities w/PMF early.

10/ Working remotely. Companies like @Superhuman have proven to work in a distributed fashion. Also helps with recruiting and scaling.
