You know it frustrates me that I have to keep saying this but ppl refuse to get it: if you know someone recovering from an eating disorder DO NOT comment on
-what they're eating
-how they're eating
-how much they're eating
-DO NOT COMMENT ABOUT THEIR EATING

"Wow you're really going to town on that pasta!"
"Is that all you're going to have?"
"Didn't you just eat lunch?"
"Why are you eating so slowly?"
DO NOT DO ANY OF THESE

In general you should just shut up about other people's eating habits but if you KNOW someone has and eating disorder & you still make these comments that like...a level of denseness I can't even comprehend

And sure, you may think you're helping! You may think you're giving them encouragement! I get that, I do.
But that's not how a person struggling with an eating disorder hears it

See, the thing about eating disorders is for a lot of people who deal with them, eating/not eating is an obsession. It consumes so much of your thoughts, your actions. It's like a black hole sucking you in.
Learning how to NOT obsess is so important

And when you comment about someone's eating behavior you're contributing to the cycle of obsession. You're MAKING US THINK ABOUT EATING which is what we don't!!!!! want to do.

If we're in recovery, we want to JUST EAT without it becoming an Event. We want to eat normally, just like you...as a matter of course, or as enjoyment, or whatever. We don't want to think about it. We just want to do it.

Just one comment can derail months of progress.
I know it sounds ridiculous but look it's happened to me. Someone said "wow going back for a second slice of cake! it's a miracle!"
And that threw me right back into Not Eating.

And the person who made the comment was trying to be supportive!! But it doesn't matter!! Because disordered eating is not rational!!!
I swear to God people need to stop talking about how people eat in general it's gross
