Julian and I trained together as teachers. Over time I have become more and more engrossed in the joy of small schools (particularly Grasmere!) and he has become immensely wise and knowledgeable about Early Years education.
He now advises the DfE on Early Years, and when writing the latest support material for Development Matters (the handbook for Early Years practitioners), he asked for contributions from us. It's lovely to see our work at Grasmere celebrated in the guidance for the nation...!
It's also through my friendship with Julian that our wonderful strategic partnership with the East London Teaching Schools Alliance began. We learn so much from each other. Very different settings, but so much in common.
Each child is unique and fascinating, wherever they go to school, and whatever their family / cultural background. It's good to talk about differences in approach, knowing that we share the same fundamental belief in the potential of every child.
