People who are saying the board have let Wilder down want to take a hard look at themselves. Of all the things we could blame the board isn’t one of them. They backed Wilder with money and Wilder had final say on all players. The wage thing, we all knew we had to establish
Ourselves in the Prem first. Imagine if we threw silly wages about and still ended in this position, we’d be fucked come the summer. Wilder even said when we came up we have to be sensible with wages. He knew the score.
Our recruitment overall is a mess and needs a massive revamp. Wilder needs to be less involved and concentrate on the important things. Let the scouts, analysts etc all spend the required time doing their jobs.
I think Wilder will have learnt a lot this year and it'll make him a lot better manager long-term. The one thing he'll take from this is he needs to be more ruthless, which I think he will be now going forward. He needs to be more like Fergie in this respect.
No room for sentiment or resting on what players did last season. Doesn't matter if they're one of the biggest players at the club. Knowing when to move players on at the right time and transition the squad is the biggest obstacle for Wilder currently.
The wages argument I actually get. But you're all missing one very important thing here. Wilder's success and rapid rise has meant the rest of the club was lagging behind. No one saw us going from League One to the Prem with relative ease. The facilities, wage structures,
The academy etc are all way behind where Wilder has taken us. That's no ones fault. But investing off the field and bringing a modern approach to the football club from top to bottom is just as important as what happens on the pitch. it's all part of the foundation. But it's
a testament to Wilder and how fantastic he's been that he's left everything/everyone else at the club behind and has risen expectations. But we aren't in a position or stable enough to break wage structures and rush the process as that then becomes costly, if we have a bad
season like we are now. All the good work is undone. It's worth remembering we are at least 2 years ahead of where we should be. Yes it hurts atm being poor but I'd rather a bad season in the Prem than League One. It's worth remembering where we was when Wilder took over.
One bad season doesn't mean we should panic. Everyone has setbacks. We go down, build again and come back stronger (hopefully).
We are in a similar situation to what Burnley was at one stage. They're only now catching up as a modern club off the field. Everything takes times. The only difference between us and Burnley is, we have an owner who is backing the manager.
