I'm doing lots of interviewing at the moment — all remote, of course. Some have been made much harder by poor candidate VC setups. Here are some simple steps you can take as a candidate to have a great remote interview...

(To be honest, these apply to all video calls)
Improve your VC setup: wear headphones; sit with light on your face; use soft furnishings to improve acoustics if you can. Here's a guide from @TechCrunch: https://techcrunch.com/2020/05/13/how-to-create-the-best-at-home-videoconferencing-setup-for-every-budget
Turn off or minimise self-view. It's natural but distracting to look at yourself, and you appear much more engaged if you don't have the ability to do that.@Slate can help you: https://slate.com/technology/2020/04/how-to-hide-face-zoom.html
Take extra care not to waffle. Interrupting is much harder over a video call, *especially* if you're not wearing headphones. As an interviewer: I want you to succeed, I want to cover everything, and I want to make time for you to ask questions. You can help me do this.
