Warning- Uncomfortable but very important tweet thread:

It is not yet the end of 2020. We have said that this is the year for racial justice. How quickly it has left the limelight though.

Why?

People it doesn't affect those who have dominance in our society. /1
This is how harms continue for #BIPOC women.

I was fooled/guilted into trying to teach re the harms to racialized women that someone was enacting to make peace within a space I care deeply about & have invested a huge amount of time & energy into. To protect that space. /3
Why am I speaking about this publicly?
I am not one to air dirty laundry. I will not call out the person/space.

I'm speaking up b/c this happens all the time to #BIPOC women. The harms are silently suffered by those who pay such high costs to exist in society who dare speak out4
And I'm not going to do it in silence anymore. I hope that ppl who have respected me, my work & advocacy can really hear why it's imperative that you do the work & be true allies/co-resistors/accomplices in disrupting this. That you speak up so that we don't have to bear it all
"white privilege doesn’t mean that life hasn’t been/isn’t hard for you; it just means that your skin colour is not a reason why it is hard. White privilege is not the same as class privilege."

This is not abt political ideology, this is abt basic human rights. I'm not "radical"
By not doing the work to become accomplices, you're silencing women like me & too many others who have/will suffer so much more than me.

I have privilege. I will use my privilege to be vulnerable here & speak out so that if even 1 #BIPOC woman is spared an experience like mine..
it will have been worth it.
I'm also doing this b/c we don't have time to waste. This has been going on for generations. It's already too late for many.

I would like to ask these questions:
What do we condone by being silent?
What msg does that give to others, to kids? ....
And lastly:
What do we value in society?
Power? Privilege? Comfort?
Who and what is this costing?
Why are those costs ok to be paid by groups not in dominance in Canada?
Who are we choosing to amplify in media & social media?
What msg does that send?
Who do we want as leaders in our society, here or in the future for our kids?
