All jokes aside the Anti-Blackness in DR is rooted in one of the xenophobic dictatorships in the Caribbean. Trujillo worked to erase Blackness from the Dominican identity for 30 whole years. DR was the only island letting WWII Jewish refugees in bc he wanted to “purify the race.”
Darkskin Dominicans were persecuted, murdered, purged from a lot of places. This sick fuck ruled DR with an iron fist and that kind of trauma transcends generations to the point where my darkskin grandma was OD colorist and my darkskin cousins legit “decided” they’re not Black.
Other islands in Caribbean don’t necessarily have this kind of struggle because they didn’t have a Rafael Trujillo massacring Haitians in broad daylight. DR got its independence in 1844. Trujillo was born in 1891. His father WAS LITERALLY Spanish colonizer in the Annexation era
He literally coined the term “Antihaitianismo” which directly translates to ‘Anti-Hatianism’ which is largely responsible for the attitude people have towards our Hatian neighbors TO THIS DAY.

My only issue is ppl push the narrative w/o at least doing some digging. ESPECIALLY non-Dominicans that make these jokes. You have no idea. My grandpa can’t even hear that name without shuddering and turning white like a ghost and that mf built like an Ox Nd married a Black woman
