alright it's that's time of year again: rather than a GOTY list, here is my thread of songs i loved from game releases this year!

kentucky route zero is a masterpiece with a similarly brilliant soundtrack, but i keep coming back to this song. i think about the panning shot accompanying this so, so much, especially during these last few months [2/10]
spiritfarer's music is as evocative as its stories. the rolling timpani and bouncing melody are so effective that listening to the song again for this thread made me want to go out and bang on some drums in the pouring rain [3/10]
though 5pm is probably my favorite hourly music from animal crossing: new horizons, 7pm is the music that makes me set my switch down and just watch the night sky with my villager for a while [4/10]
beyond light's music is so dense, leaning heavily into low brass and synthetic ambience to really set the darkness apart. yet this piece combines many themes from the last three years, all linked together for a deeply satisfying musical conclusion [5/10]
...and i'd be remiss not to mention this beautiful, gentle piece; it is a welcome reprieve and marks such a stunning moment in the new raid [6/10]
this song is a distillation of everything that makes me weep about hades, and no fumbling description from me could do it justice [7/10]
and also this haunting rendition of orpheus' lament from the supergiant anniversary album is so chilling. please just listen (and this entire album while you're at it) [8/10]
i could talk for hours about this score, but all i need to say here is BIG CLANG BIG CLANG [9/10]
but also! it takes very little for an arrangement of aerith's theme to get me misty-eyed, but this one in particular sings to my soul. the mood and instrumentation is spot on, and indicative of why this soundtrack is so praiseworthy [10/10]
BUT WAIT THERE'S EVEN MORE! i haven't finished the pathless yet, but everything austin wintory touches is auditory gold and scientifically engineered to make me cry [11/10]
