“Māori and Pacific academics have been saying this for so, so long. We are not being promoted, and we are not being paid as much, and it is not to do with our age or academic performance...we need Māori at all levels of leadership”

Listening to @taramcallister4 on @radionz now
“This is not a new story. We have been writing about stories of racism and sexism for decades...We have evidence of sector-wide sexism and racism. Let’s *do* something about this.”

Now @SereanaNaepi on @radionz
“PBRF discourages long-term research (the kind that Māori and Pacific value), it privileges *outputs* rather than *outcomes*, it privileges publications in fancy [pay-walled] journals that keep knowledge locked up.” @taramcallister4

PBRF needs an overhaul
What would ensure change? “Short term - let’s have an independent review, let’s get that data, and tie resources to it. Medium to long term - let’s keep checking in on that data. We aren’t about window dressing [policies], we are after *real change*” @SereanaNaepi
Hats off to @taramcallister4 and @SereanaNaepi - beautiful and powerful partnership. The vision of the university that you paint, especially that of PBRF which focuses on *outcome* not just *output*, that gives knowledge back to communities, is a vision I 💯 back. Sign me up

Look at these odds ratios - significantly much lower odds of being an associate prof/prof or full professor for Māori and pacific women academics. This needs to change
