Freelancing vs a Full-time Job (an Overview)
Intro:(...in before I get 'cancelled'
)Freelancing is NOT for everyone, but I do encourage people to try it for a year to see if you enjoy it or not.
You may not be able to earn a full-time income, but an extra few hundred dollars on the side can go a long way
Freelancing Pros:
You Get to be Your Own Boss
This to me is a great aspect of freedom.
In saying that, it does come with its own responsibilities, but the pros to this far exceed the cons.
Flexibility
Want to play tennis at 10am?
Done...

Your Income is Not CappedYou will have the potential to earn more than you would if you had a full-time job.
(It's true for me & a lot of other freelancers - just on my freelancing client income alone)
So you could essentially earn more while working less.
ControlAlthough not easy to do right from the start, eventually, you can control your:
- daily routine
- work schedule
- type of clients you work with
- type of projects you work on
- income
Valley IncomeOne month you can earn
and the next month you can earn 
.A way to avoid this is through retainer income, but it's definitely a reality for a lot of freelancers.
SecurityGenerally speaking, there's no job security with freelancing.
Full-Time Job Benefits:
Job Security & Stability
Some people just want a consistent income and don't want the hassle of running their own business.
You get your salary, and potentially a bonus every year, and you're happy about that.
Job Security & StabilitySome people just want a consistent income and don't want the hassle of running their own business.
You get your salary, and potentially a bonus every year, and you're happy about that.
Other Perks- Health insurance
- Paid vacations
- Sick leave
- Parental leave
- Retirement schemes
...and other perks depending on your employer.
(although if you earn enough through freelancing, this can also be allocated for)
More Benefits- Training & support
- Team environment
- Social interaction
Office PoliticsEvery office always has an Office Lobster (or 2 or 3)
You're Just a NumberIt's true for a lot of people right now & it sucks. You don't feel valued & you feel unappreciated
You're Working on Someone Else's DreamIt's fine working on someone else's dream, but don't do it at the expense of your own contentment, sanity and free will.
Lack of FreedomSpontaneous vacations, taking random days off, etc. are not possible with a full-time job.
Which One is Right for You?It's your choice.
If you're:
- Not getting paid enough
- You want more control
- You want more freedom
- You want more time with your family
- You don't enjoy your current job
...then you should definitely consider freelancing.
