Every quarter I donate 10% of my royalties from my novels to non-profits that work in areas related to the themes in the books. Thanks to everyone who bought a copy of #Infomocracy last quarter I just donated $132(+processing fees, my shout) to @AccountLab https://www.accountabilitylab.org/ ">https://www.accountabilitylab.org/">...

Thanks to everyone who bought NULL STATES in the last quarter, I& #39;m donating $31 to @institute_si ; I rounded it up to 50 euros because, I dunno, feels like any of us could become stateless at any moment, better chip in while I can https://www.institutesi.org/ ">https://www.institutesi.org/">...

And, thanks to everyone who bought a copy of STATE TECTONICS over the past quarter, I contributed $12 to @globalvoices; again, I rounded it up to $50 because we so desperately need grassroots reporting right now. https://globalvoices.org/ ">https://globalvoices.org/">...
And here is what I wrote about that choice: https://www.tor.com/2018/07/30/malka-older-state-tectonics-and-the-internets-potential-for-good/">https://www.tor.com/2018/07/3...
I feel so fortunate to be able to earn (some/most of) a living by writing, and so fortunate that I can support causes I care about. But mostly I do these donations because I want to root my books in the real world that they come from.
I hope that reading my books will impact on your imagination about the future and your ways of thinking about the present. But I also want you to know that people are right now working on the issues that my characters struggle with, and by buying my books you contribute to that.
