As a group that represents over 3,500 parents in South County we want to be sure that our parents are sure our parents our heard in the decision making around @FultonCoSchools . Before we get there, there are some things we need to remind the public.
Our families are diverse and as many of the families across the country parents who struggled with the shift to virtual learning. Despite the kinks we fully agreed with @FCSSuptLooney decision that focused on data and student safety.
As families settled into the summer we focused on trying to make sure everyone in our community was supported with resources. Our only ask was to make sure that students, families, and teachers are put FIRST.
When the decision was made to switch to all virtual two days later there were parents who were disappointed but were glad that data was used to make a decision to protect our children.
These decisions that our Superintendent and others have had to make aren’t easy but we will continue to push that we do what’s in the best interest of children, teachers and our community with the current community spread in Fulton County.
Yes, some kids should go back and others should stay home, but as the data stands, it is not safe for students or teachers to go to school.
When the decision was made schools would possibly have three (then two) options for schools in the fall, we were perplexed because the data in Georgia suggested that we needed to go back to phase 1. However, we’re about advocacy that’s what we did.
There has even been people in power who have pushed consipiracy theories and questioned the data in an attempt to please constituents who don’t care about the virus and suggest we should have a wait and see attitude.
These actions are not only dangerous, but as a district who’s pushed STEM for the past 10 years- the flagrant disregard of data is maddening and underscores the vision of #onefulton that many have worked hard for over the last four years.
