‼️🚨BIG NEWS! The Emergency Police Reform bill was signed by @MayorBowser and is now the law. 🚨‼️
Notable in this law:
✅ @DCPoliceDept must release body-worn camera footage + the names of officers in officer-involved deaths or serious uses of force within 5 days of the incident
✅This also means the families of #MarqueeseAlston #DQuanYoung #JeffPrice will also learn the identities of the officers who killed these young men, and the body-worn camera footage will be released by August 15
The bill also
✅bans the use of tear gas at First Amendment activities
✅bans the use of neck restraints
✅ @dcpolicedept officers must obtain consent from the subject before conducting a search
The bill to make this law permanent will get a hearing before the @councilofdc in the fall, so stay tuned and help us advocate to make this law even stronger!
