[1] Before I moved to Chicago from Rhode Island in 2012, my parents took me to a @lydia_loveless house show. I was MIND. BLOWN. Wait, women my age are out touring in sprinter vans
[2] playing twangy brutally honest rock at tiny venues?! Where the f*ck had this been my whole life!? After the show, I awkwardly said hi, asked her to sign my CD, threw it in my suitcase, & headed to Chicago. Fast forward 4 years & I'm MISERABLE. I was waitressing at a mediocre
[3] greek restaurant with nothing to my name but a useless psychology degree & (I sh*t you not) chronic full-body hives that ≥ 5 doctors couldn't diagnose. Turns out I'm allergic to depression. Who knew! After a particularly brutal day, I called my dad in a pity-spiral & he said
[4] "Remember @Lydia_Loveless? @BSHQ is in Chicago. Apply for an internship." During my interview, @realmikesmith asked, "What do you expect from this internship?" Without thinking I said, "I've learned from life to expect nothing" & just like that, I was in. No more gyro smell.
[5] After a few months of packing promos & stamping SO MANY POSTCARDS, I was hired on a temp-basis to cold call record stores before the holiday rush. Unfortunately, I was REALLY bad at it. Then, at the infamous BS XMAS party, tequila & I decided to b*tch slap @joshzang on a dare
[6] & tell a longwinded ghost story about Mercy Brown. I thought I was done for. Instead, my conduct was so remarkably weird that they hired me with the caveat that I would NEVER be allowed to make more cold calls. So Rob COULD hear me over the music in his office :/
[7] It has been said that Bloodshot is the land of broken toys, a place where people who are lightly used, damaged, or off-kilter find themselves by accident, by design, or both. It beckons those of us who are partial to a choose-your-own-adventure life full of surprises &
[8] difficult choices. A world without Bloodshot Records is one where more people are left on the outside looking in without a place to call home. Bloodshot is my home. There were many dark moments in the office over the last 16 months. Rob, Josh, Mike, Hannah, & I returned
[9] to the trenches every single day intent on holding the line for as long as we could in the hope that truth, reason, & morality would eventually prevail. Yet, the harsh truth of war is that even if Bloodshot is salvaged, the people who saved it did so at great personal cost.
