Not a single person is not 100% unproblematic. I said some super misogynist and transphobic stuff when I was 16. Half the stuff that I’ve learned on gender and sexuality wasn’t learned until like ? 2 years ago??? I just. It’s possible to grow, if given time.
I was also like, really racist growing up. I didn’t have a different perspective until I met my best friend in high school. He always tells me he’s appreciative of our friendship bc I made him more tolerant of queer people, but he WAY opened my eyes to the life of PoC/Mexicans—
—in America. I’m STILL learning about appropriate terms and phrases to use for effective activism. I accidentally called one of my best friends in college a “colored princess” because I earnestly didn’t know there was a difference. I’ve said some fucked up things.
But I was given a genuine chance to correct it and move on. And that’s it! We’re all works-in-progress. The difference is some people do not WANT to learn. They do not WANT to care for others with what they say or do.
If you make a mistake, remember to WANT to do better.
