Today marks my seven year work anniversary where I went through an engineering leadership development program to become a senior software engineer 
Here's a thread of seven important lessons that I've learned throughout the years
Don't be afraid to jump into the deep-endBelieve in yourself. You might feel that you’re not experienced enough for certain opportunities that pop up but this is often a result of self doubt. Some of my most rewarding experiences were a result of me taking that leap of faith
Ask questionsYou don't know everything and that's okay! Questions are key to learning from those who have experienced what you’re aiming to achieve and you can then share that knowledge in the future
Communication is keyWhether you're presenting an idea or discussing a problem, strong soft skills always help (especially in an age where many of us are still working from home). Occasionally reach out to your coworkers and ask how they are too, it could brighten their day
Invest in yourselfI think everyone should make an investment in their health and mental wellbeing. I heard early in my career that "your job will always be there, but you might not be" and that stuck with me to make sure that I'm always taking care of my health
Document your contributionsSeriously, do this. I can't tell you how helpful it is to look back months after and pick out details for a resume when you have a documented list of contributions. I have a file with my various roles and contributions over time - it works wonders
NetworkMake sure you're getting to know your coworkers both on your project and throughout the organization. Networking with others helps to build a support system
Go after what you wantDon't be afraid to put yourself out there. If there's an opening on another project that interests you don't hesitate to reach out
BONUS: Be confident!You were chosen for this role for a reason, because others believe in you and your abilities. Don't get in the way of yourself
